Exploring Local Resources: Where to Find Pickleball Courts Near Me

Let's explore the local resources in your town to find the best pickleball courts around. Of course, you can always do a search for “pickleball near me”, but hopefully this resource will do most of the searching for you so you don’t have to sift through dozens of websites.

  • USA Pickleball’s Places2Play would be the first place I would check for a court in your area. They are the National Governing Body for the sport of pickleball in the U.S. and they put a lot of work into keeping their database of locations to play pickleball updated. New locations are added daily as the sport grows.

  • One of my favorites is the PicklePlay app. The app is more than just locations to play, it brings together the pickleball community in your area to help you find people to play with, groups to join, and tournaments to compete in. You can use the website in the same manner as the app if you prefer that method.

  • Another option is the pickleball court locator tool offered by Pickleheads. This is another database of over 14,000 pickleball courts around the country to help you find a location near you.

  • Your local community centers or recreational facilities are other great resources to check out. Many towns have dedicated pickleball courts available for public use. Give them a call or check their websites for information on availability and any reservation requirements.

  • Another option is to look up local pickleball Facebook groups in your area to see what is available. If you don’t have any friends or know anyone who plays pickleball, this is probably one of the better options to get started. It will most likely be easy to find pickleball courts near you, but showing up to one by yourself may be a bit awkward and intimidating. Getting involved in a pickleball group can help you find playing partners that you can meet up with, rather than flying solo.

  • Lastly, don't hesitate to ask friends, co-workers, or any social groups you may have. They may have knowledge of hidden gems or lesser-known facilities that aren't widely advertised. Who knows, you may have a close friend who is into pickleball and you don’t even know it!

Tips for Beginners: What to Expect Your First Time On a Pickleball Court

If it's your first time stepping onto a pickleball court, you might be feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. Don't worry, we've got you covered with some tips to help ease your way into the game.

  • First, it's important to familiarize yourself with some basic pickleball etiquette. Remember to always wait your turn and be mindful of other players around you. It's also common courtesy to retrieve stray balls that roll onto your court and return them to their rightful owners.

  • Secondly, don't put too much pressure on yourself. Take it easy and focus on getting comfortable with the game. nobody wants to play with someone who is hard on themselves and behaving as if they should be playing much better than they are. Don’t be that person! Just have fun regardless of how good or bad you are playing.

  • If you feel uneasy about your ability as a beginner, it might be a good idea to research pickleball facilities that allow solo practice. This way you can work on your game and gain some confidence before playing with partners. Start by practicing your serves and volleys before diving into more advanced pickleball techniques.

  • Another option is to consider taking a lesson from a certified pickleball instructor. This is a surefire way to familiarize yourself with the game before stepping into public play.

Now you have everything you need to find fellow pickleballers and locations to play. So get out there and start connecting with fellow players, joining leagues, and signing up for tournaments!
